October 30, 2001 – (Oakland, CA) – Marabella
Books today announced that Texas Southern University (TSU), will become
the first to test a new, free financial education program designed
specifically for students of historically Black colleges and universities
(HBCUs), The program will be held on Texas Southern’s campus at the
Jesse H. Jones School of Business on November 8th from 5:30 – 8:00 pm.
Money University, as the program is
aptly called, is part of a suite of financial education products created
and designed by Marabella’s School of Personal Economics. Recognizing
the need for education in personal economics fundamentals, Marabella
developed Money University for young adults about to enter the workforce.
The curriculum is designed to ensure basic mastery of subjects ranging
from saving and budgeting to investing and debt management. There is a
short section about understanding employee benefits and taxes.
"One of the most valuable
and enduring assets we can give our young Black adults as we prepare the
next generation is the power of financial independence and economic
power," said Marabella co-founder Tracey Scott. "Life planning
skills, particularly managing personal financial affairs, are critical to
the personal and professional success of our future leaders."
Committed to providing its
students with a broad range of academic and practical skills, TSU was
eager to deliver personal economics education to their students. Harry
Clack, Director of Career Planning and Placement at TSU stated, "Marabella’s
Money University not only gives
perspective
on the theories and concepts students may learn in an economics course, it
is also one element of a complete package of career-building skills that
TSU provides."
Money University co-founders
Pamela Ayo Yetunde and Tracey Scott will conduct the seminar. Yetunde is a
financial advisor and author of the books Beyond 40 Acres & Another
Pair of Shoes and The Inheritance. Scott is an experienced presenter and
member of the board of the country’s eleventh largest credit union.

and Placement Office, Money University will be held on Thursday, November
